The Garden and Driveway Construction Process

Whatever type of garden or driveway you dream of creating - whether it's a contemporary design - cottage garden - woodland theme - oriental influence or traditional landscape we can make your
dream Mature into Reality.

All quality work starts with the attention to detail of the groundwork's. This is where good practise is essential, and like all well finished jobs the preparation is paramount. Being economical in this department is a recipe for disaster and will be regretted latter.
  • Foundations for garden walls need to be at the right depth and width for even low ornamental structures.
  • Retaining walls require very sound foundations and need to be a third of the width of the ground to be retained, this can be achieved by a variety of methods.
  • It is always good practise to lean the retaining wall into the bank being retained, as this greatly increases the walls strength.
  • Patios and drive ways all require a suitable sub-base of granular materials, Type One from our local Quarry thoroughly compacted.
  • Sub-bases for driveways should be a minimum of 150mm we have been known to use three times this amount on poor wet clay sub strata.
  • We specialise in difficult to access driveways and guarantee that your vehicle wont bottom out
  • Driveways in Block paving are laid on local coarse sand, and all other forms of paving are laid on a full bed of a wet mortar mix not dots and dabs.
  • All pointing is carried out by manually pointing each individual Joint with a special 3:1 mix of mortar.
  • Block paving being the exception where Kiln Dried sand is brushed carefully into the narrow joints and vibrated in.
  • Natural stone setts are laid on a wet mortar bed and manually pointed with a special 3: 1 mix of mortar
  • As with all jobs the preparation is the key to success.
